Privacy Policy

Cockroach Janta Party (“CJP”, “we”, “us”) runs a mobile application and website for political discussion and community organising. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your data.

01Information we collect

We only collect what the service needs to work:

• Phone number. Used to create your account and to send a one-time verification code (OTP). This is the primary way we identify your account.
• Profile details. Your display name, state and district, and an optional profile photo. You choose what to share.
• Content you create. Posts, comments, votes, reports, and the communities you join or save.
• Member verification (optional). If you apply to become a verified member, you may submit additional identity details, including Aadhaar information, solely to confirm eligibility. This is voluntary — you can use the core app without it.
• Device & technical data. Device type, app version, and a push-notification token (only if you enable notifications) so we can deliver updates and keep the app secure.

Where you post anonymously (“Ghost mode”), your auto-generated handle is shown publicly instead of your name. We do not expose your phone number to other users.

02How we use your information

• To create and secure your account and verify it's really you.
• To show you a relevant feed based on your state and district.
• To deliver notifications you've opted into.
• To moderate content, detect abuse, spam, and harassment, and keep the community safe.
• To respond to your requests, reports, and grievances.
• To comply with applicable law and lawful requests from authorities.

03Content moderation

Posts and comments may be screened automatically and reviewed by human moderators to detect hate speech, spam, harassment, and misinformation. Content that violates our rules may be removed and repeat offenders may be suspended or banned. You can report content from within the app.

04Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data, ever. We share information only in these limited cases:

• Service providers. Trusted vendors who help us run the service — SMS/OTP delivery, cloud hosting, and media storage — under confidentiality obligations and only to perform their function.
• Legal compliance. When required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
• Public content. Posts, comments, votes, and your public handle are visible to other users by design.

05Data storage & security

Your data is stored on secured servers and protected with industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to it. We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations.

06Your rights & choices

• Access & update. You can view and edit your profile in the app at any time.
• Notifications. You can turn push notifications on or off from your device settings.
• Delete your account. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us. Some content may be retained where required by law or for safety and audit purposes.

07Children

The service is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

08Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
